Social Studies
Our social studies curriculum is divided into four major areas: geography, history, civics, and economics. Geography is considered the base upon which cultural studies rest. With a foundation in the understanding of self, family, community, and the world, students explore land and water forms, continents and oceans of the world, map reading, cardinal direction, climate and the formation of culture.
The Jefferson School believes in presenting a multi-cultural view of the world. Since social studies eclipses the many differences and similarities among people of a community or of the planet, we must include in our study aspects of all cultural identities. Knowledge is the only sure path to respect and understanding between people in a school or across national, ethnic, and religious divides.
