The Jefferson School looks and feels like no other school in southern Delaware, and that's how we like it. Visitors sense great enthusiasm and energy within the walls, starting each day when the Head of School welcomes each child with a smile and handshake. Every morning, our entire student body gathers inside at the “Triangle” to greet each other, discuss special projects and debate matters big and small.
We have no traditional textbooks, desk clusters or tests. Instead, our students learn in one-on-one sessions with teachers, on guided nature walks, hands-on in an experiment, or by quietly reading a book. Most importantly, they take ownership of their education. Our children discover that they all have a part in learning as a lifelong journey to be enjoyed and shared.
Community service projects also form part of our philosophy. These projects develop not only enlightened minds but also strong and caring spirits.

“To do children the most good in our power, we must lead where we can, follow where we cannot, but still go with them, watching always for the favorable moment to help them take another step.”
